The Art Of Junk Journal Making And Junk Journaling -FAQ
Q: What is a junk journal?
A: Junk journaling started as a form of “rebellion” against the idea that expensive papers and supplies to store memories, or to create personal artwork, are needed. Pam, at “The Paper Outpost”(https://www.youtube.com/@ThePaperOutpost), said it beautifully when she shared that “a junk journal is meant to be explored, written or doodled in, and can be a place to log events or hide the little mementos of life. It can be a diary, a planner, an art journal, or an inspirational place. It is a keepsake, an heirloom treasure, something to be passed down, shared, or kept private”.
Q: How do I write in a junk journal?
A: You may want to write directly on the pages ( often coffee-dyed, tea-dyed, coloured, collaged etc), or you may prefer to make your entries on separate paper and then tuck or paperclip your paper into the journal. The possibilities to embrace your creative self are endless and remember, it is all about having fun and immersing yourself in the experience.
Q: What materials can be used for creating junk journals?
A: Absolutely anything you can find in your recycling box, thrift stores, dollar stores etc…..For example;
-you can create your journal cover from old card stock, cereal boxes, or discarded book covers……
-you can coffee-dye, ink-dye, tea-dye, or paint your pages to give them a unique vintage texture and pattern.
-the decorations can be made from various treasures such as paper scraps, pieces of fabric, napkins, tissue paper, wrapping paper, lace…..etc…..
Experiment with different materials, textures, colours and techniques. And most of all, enjoy the rich platform for exploration and inspiration this beautiful art can provide you with.
